PEST CONTROL

Moth Control in Toronto & the GTA

Clothing moths and pantry moths can cause significant damage before you notice them. We identify the infestation source, treat affected areas, and advise on prevention to stop them from returning.

OUR APPROACH

How We Eliminate Moths

Clothes or Pantry

These are different pests with different solutions. Clothes moths feed on natural fibres in dark, undisturbed storage; pantry moths breed in stored grains and dry goods. Treating one as the other does not work.

Remove the Breeding Material

The infested material has to be found and dealt with — an unworn wool garment at the back of a closet, an overlooked bag of flour or birdseed. Treatment alone with the source still present just resets the clock.

Treat and Protect Storage

Harbourage treatment plus practical storage advice, since how items are stored is what determines whether the problem returns.

How to Identify Moths

Clothing moths are small and buff-coloured and avoid light, so damage is usually noticed before the moth itself — irregular holes in wool, silk, or fur, and silky webbing or case-like larvae casings in undisturbed fabric. Pantry moths are slightly larger with distinctive wing patterns and are found near stored grains, cereal, or pet food.

Seasonal Behaviour in Ontario

It's the larvae, not the adult moths, that cause damage, feeding for weeks in a single undisturbed spot such as the back of a closet or the bottom of a grain container. Because they favour dark, undisturbed storage, an infestation can progress significantly before it's noticed.

DIY or Call a Professional?

Discarding infested food and washing or dry-cleaning affected clothing addresses a small, contained problem. Damage appearing in multiple garments or food containers, or moths seen flying in daylight — unusual for this typically nocturnal pest — suggest a wider infestation that benefits from a professional inspection to locate every affected area.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Moth Control — Questions We Get

What is the difference between clothes moths and pantry moths?

Food source and location. Clothes moths feed on keratin in natural fibres — wool, silk, fur — and live in dark, undisturbed closets and storage. Pantry moths breed in dry goods like flour, grains, cereal, pet food and birdseed. Finding webbing in a cupboard means one thing; small holes in a wool coat means the other.

Do mothballs work?

Only in sealed conditions, and with real drawbacks. Mothballs work by sublimating into a vapour that needs to be contained in an airtight container to reach a lethal concentration — in an open closet it simply disperses. They also leave a persistent odour in fabric. Locating and removing the infested item is more effective than any repellent.
