PEST CONTROL

Ant Control in Toronto & the GTA

Surface sprays only push ants to new areas. Our IPM approach targets the colony at its source using bait systems and barrier treatments, providing lasting control for carpenter ants, pavement ants, and more.

OUR APPROACH

How We Eliminate Ants

Identify the Species

Carpenter, pavement and odorous house ants need different baits and different placements. We identify which you have before treating — the wrong bait is simply ignored, which is why some treatments appear to do nothing at all.

Bait the Active Trail

Bait is placed directly on the working foraging trail so it gets carried back and shared through the colony, including with the queen. That is what eliminates a nest rather than reducing the ants you happen to see.

Barrier and Entry Work

A perimeter application plus advice on the moisture and entry conditions drawing them in — for carpenter ants especially, the wood they are nesting in is usually wet for a reason worth finding.

How to Identify Ants

Carpenter ants are large (6–12mm) and solid black; pavement ants are smaller and nest under sidewalks and slabs; odorous house ants are tiny and release a coconut-like smell when crushed. A visible trail of ants moving to and from a consistent point usually indicates a nearby colony.

Seasonal Behaviour in Ontario

Most Ontario ant species become active once temperatures consistently exceed 10°C in spring and remain active through fall. Colonies forage along scent trails, and a single ant indoors is often a scout from a larger outdoor or wall-void colony.

DIY or Call a Professional?

A few foraging ants can sometimes be managed by removing food sources and sealing entry points. A visible trail, sawdust-like frass (a sign of carpenter ants), or ants reappearing after cleaning point to an established colony that surface sprays won't reach — bait-based colony elimination generally requires a professional assessment.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Ant Control — Questions We Get

Why do ants come back a week after I spray them?

Because surface spray kills foragers and leaves the colony intact. Worse, some species respond to being sprayed by budding — splitting into satellite nests — so you can end up with more trails than you started with. Bait that gets carried back to the nest is what actually resolves it.

How do I know if they are carpenter ants?

Size and frass. Carpenter ants are large, 6 to 12 millimetres, and solid black. They do not eat wood, they excavate galleries in it, so the telling sign is sawdust-like frass beneath a hidden gallery rather than visible damage. They also strongly favour wood already softened by moisture.
