How to Identify Mice & Rats
Droppings the size of a grain of rice, gnaw marks on food packaging or wood, and a stale, musky odour are the most common early signs. Scratching sounds in walls or ceilings, especially at night, often mean rodents are already nesting inside the structure.

Will trapping alone solve a mouse problem?
It will clear the current population but not prevent the next one. If the structural entry points stay open, activity typically returns the following autumn as temperatures drop. The pattern of the same problem every year in the same season almost always means exclusion was never done.
How are mice getting into my house?
Usually through gaps you would not think of — around utility and pipe penetrations, under garage door seals, where siding meets foundation, through unsealed crawl space vents, and along settled sill plates. Older housing with rubble or fieldstone foundations gives them considerably more options.
